NOTES TO EDITOR:

NI ChildrenÕs Hospice

á U105 Operation Purple: The Takeover is an exciting week of ÔOperation PurpleÕ events, challenges and activities all in aid of Northern Ireland ChildrenÕs Hospice. Festivities get started on Monday 29th September to Sunday 5th October in a week-long bid to turn Northern Ireland purple!

á Established in 1996, Northern Ireland ChildrenÕs Hospice is the only dedicated palliative care service in the province and the only organisation that can offer high level support to life limited children with very complex needs who require 24 hour specialist care.

á There are over 1,300 life limited children and young people, and their families living in Northern Ireland who need care that only the ChildrenÕs Hospice can provide.

á Receiving the diagnosis that your child is life-limited can be devastating news for families. Emotionally and practically their lives are turned upside down as their childÕs illness progresses.

á The ChildrenÕs Hospice want to make it as easy as possible for local families to access the care and support they need.

á Thanks to the generosity of local people, the ChildrenÕs Hospice can provide a lifeline to kids with life limiting conditions. Care is provided in the childÕs own home and in the ChildrenÕs Hospices in Newtownabbey and Killadeas in County Fermanagh.

á Braver than we can imagine Ð children and young people in Northern Ireland are battling conditions such as cancer, heart disease, muscular dystrophy and degenerative conditions for which there is no known cure. These kids matter and so do their families.

á Each year it costs £3 million to run this regional service. Northern Ireland ChildrenÕs Hospice relies heavily on the public to raise £2.5 million through donations and fundraising events. Every pound that you donate or raise will make a real difference to local kids and their families.
