MAN CHARGED OVER RAMMING INCIDENT ON POLICE CAR

Police have charged a 32-year-old man with a number of offences including attempting to cause grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol in breath.

He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, January 6, for a first remand hearing.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 30-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, has been released on bail to allow for further questioning by police.

Both men were arrested in relation to an incident on the Flagstaff Road area of Cloughoge, Newry, yesterday, Thursday, January 5.

During the incidend three police officers were injured when their patrol cars were rammed.
