POLICE PROBE SOUTH BELFAST BLAZE

Detectives investigating a fire at a property in south Belfast last night, Wednesday, August 4, are appealing for witnesses and information. 

The fire on University Street was reported to police just before 10:15pm.

Police attended the scene, along with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS), where it was reported no one was inside the property.

However, two adjoining properties were evacuated as the NIFRS tackled the blaze.

No injuries have been reported, at this time. 

Detective Sergeant Gardiner said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation, and I’m appealing to anyone who was in the area just prior to when the fire was reported, and who saw or heard anything suspicious, to call us on 101 and quote reference number 2041 of 04/08/21.”

The road between Botanic and Wellesley Avenue was closed but has since re-opened.
