MOTHER REMANDED OVER STAB MURDER OF SON LIAM O’KEEFE

Eight week old Liam O’Keefe

A 29-year-old mother has faced a court today charged with the murder of her infant son in North Belfast earlier this week.

Raluca Tagani, of no fixed abode, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of her eight week old baby boy Liam O’Keefe.

She is also charged with the attempted murder of her daughter.

Her daughter is in a stable condition in hospital.

The charges relate to a stabbing incident at a house in Brompton Park in Ardoyne on Tuesday evening.

Through a Romanian interpreter, the defendant spoke only to confirm that she understood the charges against her.

A detective sergeant from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team told the court he could connect Tagani to the charges.

No application was made for Tagani to be released on court bail.

Tagani was been remanded in custody to the women’s prison at Hydebank Wood in south Belfast.

She will appear in court again by video link on Friday, August 27.
