FOUR MEN REPORTED TO PPS OVER UVF SHOW OF STRENGTH

FOUR men arrested under the Terrorism Act by detectives from PSNI’s Criminal Investigation Branch and Paramilitary Crime Task Force investigating a UVF show of strength earlier this month have now been released.

Police say all four have been freed pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The men were detained earlier this week over an incident involving a significant gathering of men in the Pitt Park area of East Belfast on Tuesday, 2 February.

A PSNI spokesperson said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Three men – Stephen ‘Mackers’ Matthews, his son David Matthews and Derek Lammey were remanded in custody last Friday charged with unlawful assembly and affray.

They are due back in court via videolin from Maghaberry prison on Friday, March 19.
