POLICE NAME WEST BELFAST CRASH VICTIM

POLICE hsve confirmed the identify of the female pedestrian who died following a collision on the Springfield Road in west Belfast on Sunday night.

She was 24 year old Lucy McIlhatton from the west Belfast area.

Lucy was a pedestrian on the Springfield Road when the incident, involving a silver Toyota Avensis car, happened at about 9 pm on January 3.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

These include causing death by dangerous driving, driving when unfit through drink or drugs, failing to remain where an accident occurred causing injury and assaulting police.

The road was closed overnight but has since reopened.

Insp Philip McCullagh said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or saw what happened to contact the police on the 101 number quoting reference number 1554 03/01/21.
