MAN ARRESTED OVER £1M CANNABIS SEIZURE

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Unit searched five properties today following the seizure of approximately £1 million worth of suspected Cannabis after a lorry shed its load on the M1 in the vicinity of Blacks Road junction, Belfast at around 6:50 am on Saturday,October 3.

Speaking about the operation, Detective Inspector Shaw said: “As part of our investigation, Detectives from Organised Crime Unit searched a number of properties in the Hillsborough and Dromara areas.

“A 33 year old male has been arrested and is currently in police custody.”

Detective Inspector Shaw continued: “This significant seizure and follow up searches demonstrates our commitment to removing dangerous drugs from our communities.

“We will continue to investigate those who profit from the misery and harm caused by illegal drugs.

“Drug dealers don’t care about their communities and profit from the misery and harm caused by illegal drugs.

“Many people who spend money on a casual transaction at the weekend think that it isn’t harming anyone else; the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

“Not only is it illegal to purchase these drugs but it fuels the local drug trade which causes irreparable damage and loss to many families and individuals whose lives it destroys.

“When you hand over money for a small amount of drugs at the weekend, this contributes to the violence, intimidation, and control inflicted by crime gangs on our communities.

“The use of cannabis itself can damage your physical and mental health. Cannabis remains the most used drug by persons in treatment for drug addiction in Northern Ireland.

“Detectives would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Black’s Road, Belfast in and around 6.30am on Saturday, 3 October to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 361 03/10/20.
