POLICE have confirmed that a man has tragically died following a road traffic collision  in Newtownabbey during the early hours of today, Wednesday, May 6. 

Inspector Paul McCarron said: “The collision was reported to us at 2:20 am this morning involving a grey Ford Focus that was located in a field in the Upper Hightown Road area. 

“Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

“The Upper Hightown Road remains closed this morning as officers carry out their enquiries. 

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area this morning and captured what occurred on their dash cam to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 105 of 06/05/20.”

No details of the victim have been released at the request of the man’s family.

UPDATE: Police say the Upper Hightown Road, Newtownabbey has now reopened.
