MAN CHARGED WITH WEAPONS OFFENCES OVER WEST INLA TERROR PROBE

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Paramilitary Crime Task Force have charged a 56 year old man with possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.

He has further been charged with possession of articles for use in terrorism, possession of property for use in terrorism and support of a proscribed organisation, namely the INLA.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 5, for a first remand hearing.

As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS.

The man was arrested on Friday 2nd August at Musgrave police station following searches in the Turf Lodge area of West Belfast on Thursday night.

A number of firearms were recovered along with telescopic sight.

A 48 year old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been released unconditionally.
