SHOTS FIRED AT HOME OF NEW IRA CHIEF COLIN DUFFY

Senior dissident republican Colin Duffy

THE home of leading New IRA terrorist Colin Duffy has been targeted in a gun attack.

The incident took place at Forest Glade in Lurgan in the early hours of yesterday.

Police attended the scene.

Duffy’s wife and children were in the house at the time but cheat injury.

Dissident group Saoradh, the political mouthpiece of the New IRA, urged its members to be vigilant.

In a statement its Armagh branch said: “It is understood that Colin’s wife and children were present at their home at the time when two loud bangs were heard, during the course of which the living room window was struck.

“Thankfully, none of the family were injured during this reckless attack. Saoradh offer the Duffy family our total support at this worrying time.”

PSNI Superintendent Wendy Middleton said enquiries are ongoing.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around 1.45am, and who saw or heard anything suspicious, to call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 136 of April 23.”

Alternatively, information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
