WOMAN ROBBED OF CASH AND MEDALS AS THUGS HOLD STANLEY KNIFE TO HER THROAT

DETECTIVES appealing for information after a report of an aggravated burglary on a home during which the female owner had a stanley knife held to her throat.

The brutal house raid happened in the Moray Crescent area of Newtownards yesterday evening, Tuesday, March 19.

Detective Sergeant Miskelly said: “Shortly before 7:15pm, it was reported that two men entered a house in the area, one of whom was armed with a Stanley knife.

“A woman in her 50’s had the knife held against her face during the incident, as the men demanded money.

“They pushed the woman against the stairs and ransacked the bedroom of the property.

“The men made off with a sum of money and a quantity of jewellery including some antique medals.

“The male armed with the knife is described as being around 5”8, medium build, aged in his 20-30s and spoke in a local accent.

“He is described as wearing a dark jacket, dark trousers and gloves.

“The second male is described as being around 5ft 11 in height, slim build and wearing dark coloured clothing.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1288 19/3/19.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
