MAN CHARGED TO COURT OVER TWO ATTEMPTED SHOP ROBBERIES

Man to face Belfast Magistrates’ Court accused of two counts of attempted robbery on Belfast’s Ormeau Road

A 38-year-old man has been charged in connection with two attempted robberies on the Ormeau Road in south Belfast.

A shop near North Parade was targeted on Friday evening around 6.55 pm when a male claimed he had a knife in his pocket but fled empty handed.

He tried the same ploy around 9.40 pm the same evening at another commercial premise on the Ormeau Road.

The 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday morning by detectives at Musgrave PSNI station over the incidents.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of possessing article with blade or point in public place, theft and handling stolen goods.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 4, for a first remand hearin.
