CLIFTONVILLE PLAYER JAY DONNELLY PLEADS GUILTY TO DISTRIBUTING INDECENT IMAGE OF A CHILD

Cliftonville forward Jay Donnelly has pleaded guilty to distributing indecent image of a child

IRISH League football star Jay Donnelly has been convicted of distributing an indecent image of a child.

The Cliftonville striker – who appeared on court lists under his full name John Donnelly – pleaded guilty to the charge last week.

A separate count of taking or making an indecent photograph was withdrawn against the 23-year-old.

The guilty plea was entered last Friday.

Donnelly, of Ardilea Drive in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast, is now due to be sentenced at the city’s Magistrates Court in January.

Pre-sentence reports by the Probation Service have been ordered before Donnelly is expected back in court early in the new year.

The case against him related to a date unknown between June and October 2016.

Donnelly has continued to appear for Cliftonville since the allegations emerged

When news first broke of his court appearance, Cliftonville FC said it was unaware of the case and launched an internal investigation.

The north Belfast club has yet to comment on Donnelly’s conviction for distributing an indecent image of a child.
