THUG ARMED WITH KNIFE ROBS SHOP OF CASH AND CIGARETTES

DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a report of an armed robbery at business premises at the Downpatrick Road, Ardglass area in the early hours of this morning (Monday 22nd October).

Detective Sergeant Bell said: “At around 6am, it was reported that a male armed with a knife entered a shop in the area.

“The male threatened staff and made off with a sum of money and a quantity of cigarettes. He left the premises on foot towards the Ardglass Road/ Strangford Road direction.

“The members of staff present at the time of the incident were not injured, however they were left very badly shaken.

“The male is described as 5”9 in height, wearing a green jacket with fur on the hood, dark jeans and dark trainers with white soles.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 178 22/10/18.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
