POLICE say a pipe bomb device has been found in a security.

The security alert in Arthur Avenue in Newtownabbey is now over after the device was made safe by Army Technical Officers.

Inspector Arnie O’Neill said: “A viable pipe bomb type device has been recovered and taken away for further examination.

“The scene has now been collapsed and evacuated residents can return home.

“I am appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident to get in touch with police by calling 101, quoting reference number 504 06/05/18.”

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
