A 29 year old man has been charged with attempted murder.

He is expected to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates Court later this morning, Monday 22 January.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service. 

The charges are in connection with an assault at a property in Thomas Street in Newtownards on Saturday 20 January.

A 19 year old female sustained stab wounds to her arm, body and neck during the incident.
