POLICE APPEAL FOR HELP IN CATCHING CENOTAPH PIPE BOMB DISSIDENTS

DETECTIVES investigating a security alert at the weekend are appealing for help in catching those who left a viable pipe bomb in a letter bin close to a Cenotaph

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Drumragh Road area of Omagh on Saturday night, November 11, and saw any suspicious activity to contact them.

They also to speak to anyone who may have Dash Cam footage which could have captured a person or persons loitering near the bin ahead of the Remembrance Day Service in the town.

Police have confirmed a viable pipe bomb type device was found at the scene in Omagh on Remembrance Sunday, which has been taken away for further forensic examination.

Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said: “We know this area of Omagh is popular on a Saturday night.

“We are appealing to any drivers who were in the area on Saturdaynight and have Dash Cam footage, to examine it and see if they have captured any suspicious activity.

“No matter how small you think it may be, if you think it looks suspicious – or out of the ordinary – please notify police immediately because it could prove significant.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police in Omagh on 101 quoting reference number 100 12/11/17.

“Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
