LOYALIST ARRESTED OVER SOUTH EAST ANTRIM UDA PROBE

Geordie Gilmore shot dead by south east Antrim UDA in March this year

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team probing the activities of the South East Antrim UDA have made a fresh arrest.

Detective Inspector Darren McCartney said: “Detectives from Serious Crime Branch have today arrested a 36 year old man in Belfast in connection with an ongoing investigation into loyalist paramilitary activity in the South East Antrim area.

“He has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite where he is currently helping police with their enquiries.”

Police have been conducted two pronged investigations into the activities of the SEA UDA.

One part deals with the murders of Geordie Gilmore in Carrickfergus in March and the brutal killing of Colin Horner a few months later.

Detectives have received two anonymous letters about Geordie Gilmore’s murder and associated SEA UDA activities.

Separate to that double murder inquiry is a protracted investigation into the activities of SEA UDA in organised criminal activities in the greater Carrickfergus area.
