PSNI LAUNCH PROBE AFTER INLA GUNMEN FIRE SHOTS OVER REPUBLICAN CORTEGE IN WEST BELFAST

DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after two masked men fired shots at a funeral of a west Belfast man.

A video posted on YouTube shows the two masked men dressed in black appear from an the top of steps entry during Barry McMullan’s funeral on the Whiterock Road.

Seconds before the gunmen appear, two young boys are seen standing on the same steps.

When the INLA terrorists face the cortege wearing black berets and glasses, the two boys moved away before a volley of shots is fired into the air from two handguns.

The funeral took place from Mr McMullan’s home on Monday in the New Barnsley district off the upper Springfield Road, was organised by the IRSP, the political wing of the INLA.

Mr McMullan was said to have been a senior member of the IRSP.

Black gloves and beret were placed on his coffin which bore the Starry Plough flag, a sign he was also a member of the INLA.

The INLA is said to be on ceasefire and is alleged to have decommissioned its weapons – but these two handguns it appears.

Poilce say they are now studying the YouTube footage to see if any offences have been committed under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Senior CID investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Gary Reid said:

“Police are aware of footage showing shots apparently being fired by masked men in West Belfast in recent days.

“An investigation is under way.”
