TEENAGER CHARGED OVER BELFAST MURDER OF HAZEM AHMED GHREIR

DETECTIVES have charged an 18-year-old man with murder of a Syrian refugee in Belfast city centre.

Hazem Ahmed Ghreir, aged in his 30s, was stabbed in Downshire Place off Great Victoria Street on Sunday evening.

Police said the teenager is to face before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for a first remand hearing.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information and asked anyone who was in the area at the time, around 10.45pm, to get in touch.

They particularly want to hear from a man and woman who tried to tend to Mr Ghreir.

Officers also want anyone with footage to pass to the murder inquiry team.
