PSNI OFFICER INJURED AFTER HE IS DRAGGED ALONG THE ROAD BY CAR

A police officer suffered injuries after a car took off while he was speaking to its driver and he was dragged along the road for a distance.

Police stopped the Honda car in the Mourne Park area of Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone, on Tuesday night just before 11 pm.

While the officer was speaking to the driver he took off.

The officer was dragged along the road before being thrown off.

He suffered cuts and bruises to his head and body.

Later police spotted the car on the Old Castle Road and forced it to stop, arresting the suspect.

The 17-year-old remains in police custody and is being quizzed about causing grievous bodily harm, causing injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to remain and failing to report an accident.

It is not yet know if he is the holder of a valid licence or insurance to be driving.
