ELDERLY WOMAN DISTURBS BURGLARS AT HER WEST BELFAST HOME

DETECTIVES are appealing for information following the report of an aggravated burglary at a house in the Springfield Park area of west Belfast in the early hours this morning.

Detective Sergeant Grimes said: “Just before 2 am, police received a report that two men, one armed with a screwdriver, had entered the house by the rear door and gained access to a utility room.

“The female occupant, aged in her 70’s, heard the men enter and managed to prevent them from progressing any further into the house.

“The men then left through the back door empty handed.

“The woman was treated by ambulance staff for shock and a cut to her head.

“I am appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Springfield Park area around the time of this incident or anyone with any information to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 174 12/03/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
