POLICE have confirmed that a woman who was critically injured in a house fire in west Belfast has tragically died.

The victim, aged in her 60s, suffered severe burns after the blaze took hold in the kitchen of her apartment in Ardnaclowney House, a sheltered housing complex off Beechmount Avenue.

The Fire and Rescue Service and the PSNI and the fire service attended the scene after the fire broke out in the woman’s top-floor flat on Sunday afternoon.

The fire service said that the fire was “accidental” and was discovered in the flat’s kitchen.

Three other residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
