Michael O’Connor remanded in custody to Maghaberry accused of attempted murder

A man was remanded in custody to Maghaberry prison today accused of trying to kill a young mum at a house last week.

Michael O’Connor faced Belfast Magistrates’ Court after being charged with attempted murder by detectives investigating the attack in Downpatrick, Co Down, last Friday.

The woman, a mum of one, was critically injured during the incident in the Thomas Russell Park area of the town.

O’Connor, aged 30, of Westrock Grove in Belfast, was brought to court from the nearby custody suite at Musgrave PSNI station where he had been held since Saturday following his arrest.

He will appear at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on December 29 via video link from the top security jail.
