A MAJOR incident was declared after the emergency services raced into action to mount a rescue operation at Cavehill Country Park in north Belfast this afternoon.
A 20-year-old woman is understood to have fallen.
She was airlifted out of the area by the PSNI’s helicopter to a waiting ambulance.
The area in which she fell was inaccessible to vehicles.
The woman was found lying close to or among trees at the foot of a cliff face close near Napoleon’s Nose.
A man whose son found a handbag raised the alarm.
“My son and his friends were up jogging round the mountain and found a handbag and identification,” he said.
“They started to look around and they saw a lady lying down the cliff.
“They climbed down the hill and found she was still alive. The alarm was then raised.”
