THE funeral of murdered former UDA chief John ‘Bonzer’ Boreland will take place this weekend.

The 46-year-old was blasted to death with a sawn-off shotgun several times on Sunday night as he got out of his car outside his flat at Sunningdale Gardens in north Belfast.

He died at the scene.

Detectives believe he was murdered as part of an internal UDA feud.

Boreland was heavily involved in the drugs and crime scene.

He was jailed in 2007 for nine years over a blackmail and extortion racket on a north Belfast publican.

His funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 13, at Moravian Church, Oldpark Road, at 9am and afterwards to Roselawn cemetery.

The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers for the Northern Ireland Hospice.
