DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team probing the suspicious death of Dessie Mee have released three suspects from custody.

Officers were yesterday given an additional 36 hours to question three people after a judge granted an extension to detention application.

But in the early hours of this morning all three were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Two are to be reported to the Public Prosecution Service for possession of Class B cannabis drugs.

Dessie Mee, 45, died in hospital after an incident at an apartment block on Regent Street on Tuesday evening.

He was found injured outside Millers House.

Police said he fell from an upstairs window at a flat but did not whether he was pushed.

Those questioned were a 29-year-old woman and two men, aged 35 and 42.

The were detained on Tuesday night, shortly after Mr Mee was found lying on the ground at the flats.

He was from Blenheim Drive in the town in the West Winds estate on the Comber Road

A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday.

But police have yet to release the results of it.

On Wednesday, the officer leading the MIT investigation appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Geddes from MIT said: “Mr Mee was found outside Millers House apartment block in Regent Street shortly before 7.50 pm on Tuesday night. He had been in an apartment immediately beforehand.

“We are appealing for information about Mr Mee’s movements last night and in the last few days.

“We are also appealing for information about activity in and around apartment number 25 at Millers House last night between 6pm and 8.30pm.

“Three people remain in custody, a 29 year old woman and two men aged 35 and 42.

“I would appeal to anyone with information about Mr Mee’s death or activity at the apartment to contact detectives at Newtownards police station.”
