COPS are jubilant after smashing a cannabis factory in east Belfast.

The discovery was made in Victoria Road during a “proactive search”, say the PSNI.

Cannabis plants worth £85,000 seized.

Also seized was paraphernalia associated with cannabis growing including lamps and irrigation.

A 60-year-old man was arrested during a follow-up search at a house in Mersey Street.

He was detained under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and other class B drugs offences and remains in custody helping with enquiries.

Detective Inspector White said: “Proactive search operations like this one demonstrate our ongoing commitment to tackling the scourge of drugs in our society.

“Anyone with information regarding the cultivation, sale and supply of drugs can contact police on 101.

“Or information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
