ARSON PROBE AFTER ELDERLY COUPLE FLEE NORTH BELFAST FLAT FIRE

Fire crew sceneDETECTIVES have launched an arson probe over a fire in north Belfast this morning.

An elderly couple may now have to leave their north Belfast home after a fire was started in the empty house next door.

The blaze was reported to the Fire and Rescue Service around 7.30 am.

Fire crews raced to the scene of unoccupied semi-detached house at Wolfhill Link.

A 78-year-old woman and a man, 76, who is disabled, had to leave their home which has been significantly damaged.

It is understood a group of youths lit a fire in the derelict house which got out of control.

In a statement, the PSNI said: “Detectives at Musgrave PSNI station have appealed for anyone with information following an arson attack on a flat at Wolfhill Ave, Belfast this morning to contact them on the 101 non emergency number.”
