YOUTHS ATTACK MAN WITH HAMMER IN NORTH BELFAST

police crime scene pic 1DETECTIVES are investigating after a man was struck with a hammer during an assault by a group of youths in north Belfast.

Police say the 20-year-old was attacked in Skegoneill Avenue around 6.35 pm on Saturday evening.

It is believed that up to 10 people were involved in the incident.

The victim suffered a suspected fractured wrist as well as swelling to his head and face.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested a short time later under the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861.

He is being questioned at the PACE custody suite in Musgrave PSNI station on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who was in Skegoneill Avenue or Jellicoe Avenue on Saturday evening and who witnessed the assault or any suspicious activity to contact them on the 101 number.
