MAN’S DEATH NOT SUSPICIOUS, SAY POLICE

Police scene armed copTHE PSNI have scotched rumours that a man was stabbed to death at a house in west Belfast yesterday.

The man’s body was found in a house in Paris Street off the Shankill Road.

The discovery was made in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were at the house most of yesterday carrying out an examination.

Rumours swept the Shankill and other loyalist areas that the victim had been stabbed.

In a message on the Protestant Unionist Loyalist website, a statement said: “Someone called Andy Bell from Sandy Row stabbed in Paris Street on the Shankill Road and is dead.

“RIP Andy.”

Police have said enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death but have ruled out he was stabbed.

“This death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage,” they added.

DUP councillor for the area Brian Kingston said the death was “very sad and tragic”.
