MAN TO FACE COURT OVER MURDER BID ON POLICE OFFICERS

Laganside Court houseDETECTIVES have charged a 46-year-old man with attempted murder after shots were fired at a police car in north Belfast on Boxing Day.

Police were responding to a report of a man being assaulted in the Highfern Gardens area at around 9.40pm on Saturday night.

Officers were trying to find the attacker in the Heath Lodge Close area.

A man then came out of a house and pointed a gun at a police car before opening fire.

Fortunately, no officers were injured in the incident.

As well murder bid charges, he is also accused of making threats to kill, possession of a firearm and criminal damage.

The man has will appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court this morning for a first remand hearing.
