SADNESS AS YOUNG BOY DIES IN THREE VEHICLE CRASH

policeroadclosedA seven-year-old boy has died following a crash in Newtownabbey on Saturday evening.

Police said Jackson Turner died at the Royal Victoria Hospital following the injuries he susptained.

Jackson was a P4 pupil at Sunnylands Primary School in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

Seven other people were injured when three vehicles collided on the Old Carrick Road at around 6.35 pm.

The driver of the car Jackson was travelling in remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Police said a girl aged four who was also in the car “was less seriously hurt”.

Five people from the two other cars were also injured, but none of their injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

Police in Newtownabbey have appealed for information.

The scene has been examined by the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit to determine how the accident happened.

The Old Carrick Road has now reopened.
