COPS are jubilant after seizing a fishing spear, drugs and cash during a planned search operation in Co Down.

The items were seized after officers had to gain entry through “fortified and strengthened doors” which had put up to prevent them getting in.

Police said sterling and euros worth about £13,000 were seized in the operation.

Inspector Mark Robinson said the most alarming aspect of the seizure was the fishing spear .

“If used against anyone, would most certainly kill them or leave them with life-changing injuries.

“To possess a weapon such as this you must have a very good reason so this was seized due to a fear for public safety.”

Other items seized including equipment to interfere with the electricity supply.
