POLICE in Newcastle are investigating a series of overnight burglaries and thefts from the Castlewellan area.

Thieves have stolen a substantial number of power tools stored in a van over night.

It is believed a number of properties were also entered in the area.

A police spokesman said: “We want to remind you, that while it is not possible to unload your works van at the end of everyday, these tools represent your livelihood.

“Where possible the van should be stored in a safe place such a garage or locked yard.
