SOUTH DOWN DUP MLA Jim Wells is to stand down from his role on the Stormont back benches for two weeks to recharge his batteries.
In a statement, the former Health Minister said the last five months have been the most difficult of his life.
He said that several family illnesses, including that of his wife, and the collapse of his political career when he had to leave his post Minister for Health had taken their toll on him.
Mr Wells said he had been under enormous pressure trying to clear his name over allegations that he made an offensive remark about gay people during a hustings event last year.
However, the PPS this week announced he would be prosecuted and Mr Wells said he felt vindicated.
