Wanted sex beast David Thomas Gaynor now behind bars

A man from Northern Ireland wanted in the UK in connection with an alleged sex attack has been arrested in Co Donegal.

David Thomas Gaynor was remanded in custody by the High Court in Dublin yesterday after he was arrested on foot of a European Arrest Warrant (EAW).

The 51-year-old’s extradition is being sought on charges of sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault and assault causing harm to a woman.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred at a house in Swindon, Wiltshire, in England during the night and early hours of the morning of 20 and 21 December 2013.

If convicted of the charges Northern Ireland born Gaynor, with an address at Cashel Avenue, Crumlin, Dublin, could receive a life sentence.

The High Court heard Gaynor was arrested by gardaí at an address at Letterkenny, around 8am yesterday morning on foot of a EAW that had previously been endorsed by the High Court in Dublin.

He was then taken to the Four Courts in Dublin.

He appeared before Justice Colm Mac Eochaidh who, after informing Gaynor of his rights, remanded the accused in custody until next Tuesday’s sitting of the extradition list at the Criminal Courts of Justice.

Gaynor, who was legally represented, did not speak during the brief hearing, save to acknowledge his identity.

It is expected that an application for bail will be made on Gaynor’s behalf when the matter will return before the court.
