TEN-MINUTE MINISTERS IN BREACH OF PUBLIC DUTY

Fearghal McKinneySDLP South Belfast MLA Fearghal McKinney has said that he believes that DUP Ministers who clock in and clock out to further their political brinkmanship are in breach of their duty to the public.

He added that he would seek the advice of the Commissioner on Standards over their conduct.

McKinney said: “I share the very serious concerns of many that the Ten-Minute Ministers of the DUP are in breach of their duty to the public and have certainly contravened the terms of the Ministerial Code of Conduct.

“Over the last number of weeks I have been dismayed at the flagrant disregard shown by DUP Ministers over requests for information by myself, other MLAs and the public.

“They have refused to answer written questions about serious problems that our constituents face and in doing so have turned their faces against the public good.

“This is unacceptable behaviour and the public deserve better. I believe that such actions are in breach of the Ministerial Code and the MLA code of conduct.

“I will be contacting the Commissioner for Standards and will ask him to consider this very serious matter and to make a ruling.”
