MAN ARRESTED OVER SEASIDE DRUGS RACKET

Police sceneDETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branch have arrested a 31 year old man following five searches in the Portrush area this afternoon.

Police say he has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a class B controlled drug, possession of a class B controlled drug with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of a class B controlled drug.

Detective Inspector Tom McClure said: “The searches are part of a proactive investigation into the supply of illegal drugs in the North Coast area and as part of the overall search operation, four suspicious packages were recovered.

“These packages are believed to contain herbal cannabis and cannabis resin with an estimated street value of approximately £3900.

“A quantity of cash, some mobile phones and some other items were also seized in the searches.

“We are determined to crack down on individuals involved in the illegal supply of drugs and I would like to thank the local community for their continued support.

“Anyone with any information about the illegal use of drugs in their area should contact their local police station on the non emergency number 101.

The 31 year old man currently remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
