Man being quizzed at serious crime suite in Antrim over Semtex explosives find

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit have arrested a man over an arms and explosives find in west Belfast.

Police said the 44-year-old man was arrested in west Belfast on Wednesday under section 41 of the Terrorism Act.

He was taken to the serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning.

The suspect is being held for:

* conspiracy to cause explosions;

* possession of explosives with intent to endanger life;

* possession of firearms, ammo with intent to endanger life;

* conspiracy to possess firearms and ammo.

The arms and explosives were discovered last Thursday night at an address on Ballymurphy Road following a covert police operation.

One man, Kevin Nolan, 45, who was arrested an an address in Sunderland on Sunday, has already been remanded in custody.

Two others – a 67-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman – were arrested at the scene during the covert police operation.

They were later released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
