PAIR RELEASED AFTER SEMTEX EXPLOSIVES FOUND IN WEST BELFAST

PSNIDETECTIVES have released a man and a woman who were arrested after Semtex explosives, handguns, 200 rounds of ammunition and detonators were recovered by undercover police during a security alert in west Belfast.

A 67-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were questioned following the security operation on the Ballymurphy Road.

Cops swooped on Thursday night following a covert surveillance operation on the pair.

A PSNI spokeswoman said they were released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The items were seized in an intelligence-led operation by police investigating violent dissident terrorist activity.

More than half a kilo of the lethal Czech-made Semtex-H plastic explosive was recovered.
