ELDERLY LADY VICTIM OF DISTRACTION BURGLARY

creeper burglary picDETECTIVES are investigating after an elderly woman was the victim of a distraction burglary in north Belfast.

A man claiming to be from the Water Board called at the woman’s home in Lowwood Park area yesterday afternoon, Thursday, July 16.

Police say this man distracted her attention while two other males entered her home.

All three fled on foot but it is not known if anything was stolen during the incident.

Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said: “I would remind the public if you are not 100% satisfied the caller at your door is who they say they are, do not let them in and ring Quickcheck on 0800 0132290, who within minutes can check if the person at your door is who they say they are.

“We understand it can feel awkward and uncomfortable to keep people standing on the doorstep but this is no reason to allow strangers, and possibly criminals, into your home.

“Do not feel pressured. If you have any doubt – keep them out.

“Neighbours can also play a part in helping protect the more vulnerable in their community.

“Residents should try to look out for one another and report all suspicious activity to the police immediately.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone with any information that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact Detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
