MAN BAILED OVER ATTEMPTED MURDER OF TEEN GIRL IN NORTH BELFAST

Laganside Court houseA 61-year-old man faced a court two charged with two counts of attempted murder on Monday night in north Belfast.

Orange Order member John Aughey was arrested at the scene after he allegedly drove his car at a crowd in the Ardoyne area.

Aughe appeared appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court as armed police kept guard both inside and outside the courtroom..

Aughey, from Brae Hill Park in Ballysillan, spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him.

A detective objected to bail but district judge Fiona Bagnall decided to release him on strict conditions.

One of those is that he must reside outside of the Belfast area for fear his presence may cause public disorder.

A 16-year-old girl, Phoebe Clawson, and a woman were struck by a car as trouble flared in the city on Monday night.

The teenager was trapped under the car on the Crumlin Road and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Quick thinking police officers from an armed response unit rushed to her aid.

And with the help of local residents managed to roll the car on its side so Phoebe could be freed and treated at the scene by paramedics.
