MEN WITH ‘IRISH ACCENTS’ LINKED TO TWO DISTRACTION BURGLARIES

Police sceneDETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses following two distraction burglaries in the Bangor and Lisburn areas yesterday afternoon, Saturday, June 20.

Detective Constable Sonya Hawthorne said: “It’s understood that at around 12.15pm yesterday afternoon, three males with southern Irish accents called at a house on Prospect Road in Bangor claiming to be from a water company.

“Entry was gained to the house and whilst the occupants were distracted by one of the males, the two others searched rooms in the house.

“It is unclear at this time if anything was taken.

“At around 1.30pm police received a further report of three males, again with southern Irish accents, calling to the home of an elderly couple in Woodland Park in Lisburn.

“The couple were distracted by one of the males purporting to be from an electric company whilst the other males entered the property.

They made off empty handed when challenged.

“We believe these incidents to be linked and are appealing for anyone who was in either of these areas yesterday afternoon and who may have witnessed these males or any suspicious behaviour to contact police on the non-emergency number 10.

“Or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
