MAN ARRESTED OVER DRIVING AND DRUG OFFENCES

police crime scene pic 1THE PSNI say District Support Team officers from Lisburn have arrested a 21 year old man on suspicion of a number of driving and drug offences.

This includes dangerous driving, no insurance and failing to stop, failing to report and remain at the scene of a collision.

He was also arrested for possession of a class B drug following a vehicle pursuit which began on the Brokerstown Road this afternoon.

Constable Baxter said, β€œAt around 4.30 pm, fully trained tactical pursuit officers signalled for the driver of a silver Vauxhall Vectra to stop after witnessing the car being driven erratically.

“The Vectra made off, travelling at speed, onto the Knockmore Road, causing other drivers to swerve out of its path before finally colliding with a silver Peugeot car at the junction of Knockmore Road and Windermere Avenue.

“The driver exited the vehicle following the collision, but police, with the assistance of members of the public, detected and arrested the suspect a short distance away.

“He remains in custody at this time helping with enquiries.”

Constable Baxter added β€œI would like to thank the members of the public who assisted officers today.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who may have had their vehicle damaged in the course of the pursuit to contact police in Lisburn on 101 quoting police reference number 938.”
