POLICE are investigating a sectarian attack on a memorial to those killed by the UVF in the 1971 McGurk’s Bar bombing.

The PSNI say they are treating the paint bomb attack on the site at the corner of North Queen Street and Great George’s Street in north Belfast as a hate crime.

Fifteen people died and 17 others were injured when the UVF left a bomb on the bar’s doorstep.

It exploded causing the building to collapse on top of patrons inside.

Anyone with information about those behind the attack is asked ring Tennent Street PSNI station on 101 or they can give their information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
