DETECTIVES are urgently trying to catch a dangerous sex fiend who raped a teenage girl in the grounds of a Belfast graveyard.
The PSNI say that it was reported to officers that sometime during the early hours of Saturday morning the girl was in the grounds of the cemetery when she was approached by an unknown male who then assaulted her.
The male is described as being aged in his 40s, of medium build and clean shaven with short black hair.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and are anxious to speak with a ‘Good Samaritan’ woman who helped the girl after the assault.
The woman is described as being aged in her 30s or 40s, with blonde hair tied up in a ponytail and wearing some type of uniform.
She was driving a red coloured car and stopped with the girl on the Falls Road and gave her a lift to the Downpatrick area.
Detective Sergeant Gary Chambers, who is leading the investigation, is appealing for the woman or anyone with information about the incident to contact him or his team at the Public Protection Branch in Ladas Drive on the 101 non-emergency number 101.
Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
