EXCLUSIVE: BOXER Eamonn Magee jnr was stabbed to death by a pub bouncer in a row over a woman.
Belfast Daily can reveal the chief suspect for the fatal ‘crime of passion’’ stabbing is a foreign national called who works as a nightclub doorman in Belfast.
He has been described by locals as a “really super guy’’ who has never been known for violence before.
The 32-year-old, who worked at Beckett’s bar and grill on the Stewartstown Road in west Belfast as a pub door/bouncer, was arrested just before lunchtime yesterday in the Dunmurry area on suspicion of the murder of 22 year old Magee.
He was taken in handcuffs to the custody suite at Musgrave PSNI station for questioning.
The suspect can be held for up to 24 hours before either being released or charged.
A security source told us: “Eamonn Magee jnr was stabbed in a row over a ‘femme fatale’.
“The suspect is known to us as a fella called ‘Chan’ who works as a bouncer/doorman. There appears to have been some row between ‘Chan’ and Magee about this woman.
“Detectives have ‘Chan’ in custody to find out his side to what happened.’’
Detective Chief Inspector John McVea, of the PSNI’s Major Investigation, who is heading up the murder inquiry said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances which led to the death of such a young man as Eamonn, who is a son, a brother, a partner and a friend.
“I would therefore appeal to anyone who saw or heard any dispute in the Summerhill Park area, or who knows anything about this murder, to contact detectives at Lisburn Police Station on the non emergency number 101.
“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Residents in Twinbrook’s Summerhill Park woke yesterday morning to the shocking news that talented boxer Eamonn Magee suffered fatal stab wounds to his stomach and chest around 2.40 am.
He is the son of former world welterweight boxing champion Eamonn Magee.
Described as a “talented boxer’’, Eamonn jnr planned to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a world beating fighter.
The murder has shocked the world of local boxing as Ulster’s top fighters come to terms with his tragic death.
Olympic boxer Paddy Barnes tweeted: “RIP young Eammon Magee, murdered by scum in Belfast last night.’’
Belfast’s world IBF bantamweight champion Carl Frampton tweeted: “Absolutely terrible shocking news about Eamonn Magee Jr. May he RIP.”
Local Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer McCann said people were shocked at the murder.
“A young man has tragically lost his life and no matter what, he’s somebody’s son.
“People are wakening up here this morning, they’re seeing the cordoned off area, they’re hearing the sad news, so people are very, very shocked and very saddened by this.”
