DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team have started a murder inquiry over the death of boxer Eamonn Magee jnr in west Belfast.

He is the son of former boxer Eamonn Magee.

Fellow boxers have been shocked at the death of Eamonn Magee jnr who is in his 20s.

Belfast’s world bantamweight champion Carl Frampton tweeted: “Absolutely terrible shocking news about Eamonn Magee Jr. May he RIP.”

The victim is believed to have suffered stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

The fatal stabbing happened at Summerhill Park in the Twinbrook area in the early hours of this morning, May 30.

A police spokesman said: “At this time police are treating this as a murder investigation.

“There are no further details at this time.”

The area around a house remains cordoned off as crime scene investigators carry out an examination.
