MASKED THUGS BEAT MAN WITH HAMMERS AND HATCHET

PSNIDETECTIVES are investigating a serious assault on a man last night.

It happened at flats in Adelaide Avenue in Whitehead, Co Antrim.

Police say officers responded to a report around 11.30pm that a number of masked men had dragged a male occupant from his flat into a communal hallway and assaulted him with hammers and a hatchet.

The man, who is aged in his 20’s, suffered head injuries and puncture wounds to his arms and legs as a result of the attack.

He is currently in hospital receiving treatment for his wounds which are not thought to be life threatening.

Detective Sergeant John McKendry has appealed for anyone who was in the Adelaide thuAvenue area on Sunday evening and noticed any suspicious activity or anyone who has any information to contact detectives in Newtownabbey on 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
